Ethiopia
ARAHA -2018
The appalling rise in the number of orphans in Ethiopia has reached epidemic proportions. The United Nations Fund-Ethiopia (2007) estimates there are 4.6 million orphaned children, 85 % of which do not attend school. For orphans in Ethiopia it is mostly less likely to keep them in the schooling process of learning for longer years since they lack parents which will otherwise advise and motivate them to stay and complete their schooling years. However, the idea of creating love between children and books can play a role to minimize early drop outs of orphans.
A Library has been built and equipped in Dire Dawa town Eastern Ethiopia, a very important addition to the Luqman Primary School. One of the biggest challenges the children face is the lack of educational support including books to read.
The Library will impact a significant (hundreds) number of orphans and community around by reducing the number of drop outs by availing them the needed books which otherwise they won't afford to buy and finally will be able to complete their schooling years without interruption.
Building and equipping is a key strategy for supporting the education of the children in Ethiopia and hence could bring sustainable solutions.
This library is a sustainable project that will offer the beneficiaries hope, will help them meet their short term needs and to become contributing members of their communities in long term.
It’s because of your help that hundreds of orphans in Dire Dawa now will be able to continue their education as they will be using this library as a bookstall to borrow all the books required by the school that they could not afford to buy reason why they dropped out the school before.
